Hello lovelies,

Thank you for finding me here!

I am Salena Godden. I am a novelist, poet and broadcaster of Jamaican-Irish mixed heritage. I write a lot and love to make poetry, novels, memoir, essays, short stories, films, songs and radio shows. I am author of award-winning books Mrs Death Misses Death and Pessimism is for Lightweights.

This year a new full poetry collection With Love, Grief and Fury and a literary childhood memoir Springfield Road - A Poets Childhood Revisited were published with Canongate with a double book launch, May 2024.

Coming next: Work is in progress on an eagerly anticipated second novel set in the Mrs Death Misses Death universe, this new story is due for publication with Canongate in spring 2026

Thank you for finding me on Substack. This substack page is named after my poetry book ‘With Love, Grief and Fury’ a collection that explores deep and fearless love for people and planet. Grief for all we lost and are losing, and our fire, rage and fury.

On here I will sporadically share news and dreams, whispers from my 4am Writing Club, tour diaries and gig adventures, snippets of performances, audio and film, posts about poetry and books and other work in progress…
