Thank you, Salena, this made my day. I had, by total chance, switched on the radio that evening a while ago, just as you started reading from 'umbilical'. I was about to start cooking, but just stood still listening and the world stood still with me. Later that night I had to find out what this piece of radio was and, a few steps down the rabbithole, signed up to your substack. When I saw this email in my inbox just now I took a moment and listened again, eyes closed. The power of your poem whisked me away to be with my mum, to a place of intense closeness and sadness and love. Yes, the thread never breaks, and your words made me feel the tug. My mum Hildegard passed away in 2016, and today is her name day (Hildegard of Bingen, Sept 17). To our mums and their resilience and steadfast love! Thank you!
